Space Force, we have a problem. We get the vibration, then the boom. It’s relentless — Boom! Boom! Boom!
As reported in the Los Angeles Times by Salvador Hernandez on June 11, 2024 mysterious sonic booms are rattling the SoCal coast, and more are coming.
The California Coastal Commission Report found that the way the project was being carried out was substantially different than what the Department of the Air Force (DAF), U.S. Space Force had originally described in its negative determination and, as a result, was adversely affecting coastal resources.
Sonic Booms are being felt and heard from Central Florida’s Space Coast, Boca Chica Beach in South Texas to Southern California’s Vandenburg Space Force Base.
bluShift Aerospace is on track to turn Maine into a hub for the launching of commercial nanosatellites starting in 2025.
Given that sonic boom considerations have yet to be raised as an issue in the citing of a Downeast launch facility, it may be a good time to follow Jonesport’s lead and institute a moratorium on building any aerospace facilities.
Neither Pigeon Hill Preserve, home to Atlantic puffins, nor is Acadia National Park on the Schoodic Peninsula, a tourist destination in Maine, a great fit for multiple rocket launches with their accompanying sonic booms.
